Manager Selection Process

It is expected that managers will be in agreement with the general philosophy and goals of  Southern Youth Baseball and will make every effort to work within the guidelines set forth. Any manager who has strong reservations about the Southern Youth Baseball philosophy, goals, and procedures should make their feelings known to the Manager Selection Committee prior to the formation of the teams so that differences can be discussed and, if necessary decisions by the Board can made regarding their participation.

 

The following manager expectations and selection criteria shall apply to each of the divisions of Southern Youth Baseball (i.e., T-Ball, Rookie, Minor and Major).  The Manager Selection Committee (President, Vice President / Player Agent of Division and Division Coordinator) will comprise the selection committee and make recommendation to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors determines all final decisions.

All candidates must first complete the Volunteer Application form.

Qualifications/Requirements for Managing a team in Southern Youth Baseball:

·         Candidate must be at least 18 years of age and be Cal Riken certified (parent of a program participant preferred, but it is not necessary).

·         Personal and professional history must be devoid of any record which would cast doubt on your ability to properly deal with children.

·         Candidate must have ability to work effectively with parents and youngsters. Candidate must display a genuine interest in youth and acceptance of them as they are.

·         Candidate must have time necessary to carry out all duties.

·         Candidate must be patient, fair-minded, understanding, and willing to put the personal growth of the participants ahead of personal desires to win games.

·         All coaches must pass the Cal Ripken Certification Coarse after selection.

 

Manager Selection Process  (Must meet all above criteria before consideration)

  1. First preference will be offering an existing manager of his/her previous years team the same manager position the following year.
  2. Second preference will be to offer a rostered coach of his/her previous years team the manager position. (If both coaches are interested then refer to bullet points below)
  3. Third preference goes to any returning manager from a previous season’s team identified as the rostered manager within Southern League.
  4. Forth preference will be awarded to a candidate that has a child in the division to which he/she is applying. (Preference given to prior coaching experience)
  5. Fifth preference will be given to a candidate with prior coaching experience, knowledge of the game and teaching abilities.

 

Note: Final decisions will be made and approved by the SYB Board.
